Conventions Used On My Poster for 'Remember Me'

In this post I will be analysing the key conventions used in my film poster and how they help to create a professional and genre-appropriate design.

The film title is one of the most important conventions on my poster, as it is what audiences will remember most. I have made it clear and easy to read so that it stands out and immediately grabs attention. The positioning and size help to ensure it is the main focus, which is typical of romantic comedy posters as they aim to be eye-catching and memorable.

I have included a billing block at the bottom of the poster along with production logos and social media hashtags. This is a key industry convention that makes the poster look professional and realistic. The billing block adds authenticity, while the logos and social media hashtags help to promote the film further and allow audiences to engage with it outside of the poster. I have picked the colour for the billing and the production company logos from the dress my female protagonist, Emma, wears.

The use of “from the director of” is another important convention, as it helps to build credibility and trust with the audience. If viewers recognise the director or their previous work, they are more likely to be interested in the film. This is commonly used in real film posters to attract a wider audience. The films referenced also belong to the rom-com genre.

I have used a tagline on my poster to help establish the tone and genre of the film. This tagline hints at the romantic element, giving the audience an idea of what to expect without revealing too much of the narrative. This creates intrigue and encourages viewers to want to find out more.

The release date is clearly displayed on the poster, which is an important convention as it informs the audience when the film will be available. It also helps to build anticipation and excitement.

Finally I have included two review quotes on the poster. These help to create a positive impression of the film and make it seem more appealing to audiences. By showing that the film has been well received, it encourages people to trust the film and increases the likelihood that they will want to watch it. The reviews use language associated with romance, and come from publications whose readership is the terget demographic for films from the genre.

Overall all of these conventions work together to make my poster look realistic and professional, while clearly communicating the romantic comedy genre and attracting the target audience.
